Petra & Jim~ Eloped & Married at Rathtrevor Beach Park

Petra and Jim visit Parksville nearly every year, they live in Alberta and love spending time near the ocean in the summers. This past August, they decided to become married by eloping at one of their favorite beaches, Rathtrevor Beach Park. With just a very small handful of friends and Petra’s daughter, they married on the beach with the smell of salt water and a light ocean breeze in their hair. It was perfect; 23 degrees, sunny and beautiful along the rocky edge of Rathrevor Beach overlooking incredible blue waters. Jim played a round of golf with his buddy before the ceremony, and Petra and the girls got dolled up in shades of pink, spending a relaxing morning together.

Their Love Story

Petra and Jim have both married once before and decided that they deserved another chance at finding true love. They knew each other many years ago when they both worked together, but they never pursued any potential sparks and moved forward. Something like fifteen years later, Petra recognized Jim while grocery shopping one day with her daughter Alexandra. Petra admitted to her daughter about having a crush on him all that time ago and wondered what he was up to now. Alexandra went above and beyond, reaching out and contacting Jim to set up a date between him and her mom. What a girl! The date went so well and the two of them completely hit it off. On one of their annual trips to Vancouver Island, they decided to elope without telling anybody, surprising their families once they returned home.

Rathtrevor Beach Park, a Great Wedding Destination

Rathtrevor Beach Park is a fantastic wedding destination for both elopements and traditional wedding ceremonies. There are picnic shelters you can reserve for casual picnic receptions, 200 vehicle accessible campsites, three playgrounds, over 5 km of walking trails and plenty of both sandy and rocky beach. People often have their ceremonies here and reception to follow elsewhere where catering and indoor shelter are provided. The 347 hectare park has a variety of old growth Douglas Fir forest, beaches both rocky and sandy, walking trails and even a few beautiful meadows. I often take clients here because of the diversity of photo opportunities, and the wonderful water to wade in at the end. It’s amazing!

Check out the website for Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park here, you’ll find maps, brochures and all the info you need to plan your visit; http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/rathtrevor/
