Erin and Jake’s Picturesque Backyard Nanaimo Wedding

Their love story began…

At a weekly group sport event playing various sports for fun, she noticed this cute guy playing on the team. She couldn’t remember his name, but her sister remembered! Soon enough, they were hanging out beyond the weekly sport meetup, and fell pretty hard for each other, and fast. She was an artist, studying to be a nurse, and he was a passionate fisherman, employed with the fisheries department. He suited her up in hip waders and tackle box, and soon she too became a passionate fisherwoman. They just clicked, and their spirit for adventure and strong work and family ethics melded them together as one. They knew they would marry each other, but had planned to wait until she had finished her nursing program. However, Jake decided to go fishing for the big one. Hip-deep in the Nanaimo River, Jake proposed to Erin while fly fishing. She said yes and he certainly got the catch of a lifetime! I was happy they were into the idea of photographing their engagement session at the very location where he proposed. Hip waders and all, we went fishing together in February for their cute pre-wedding adventure photos. Ceremony Location

Their wedding ceremony was held in Erin’s childhood home; a backyard wedding. Her mother and father worked incredibly hard in the months leading up to the wedding, landscaping and watering/loving their garden to absolutely flourished perfection. It was a delight to photograph, and carried a ton of meaning to Erin and her family. They were surrounded by their many close friends, and a strong family on both sides. Some even coming as far as Europe to see Mr. Jake get married!Vancouver Island Adventure Wedding Photographer

Formal Photograph Location

The wedding formal photographs were taken at Neck Point Park in Nanaimo. This is a popular destination for photographs as it is so beautiful and diverse, with great photography light at all times of the day. It gives you that rugged West Coast feel, and has some beautiful fencing too which are cute in pictures. This location also allows for outdoor ceremonies. Check out the BC park website here: Nanaimo Wedding Ceremony Beach Location.

Coast Bastion Inn Wedding Reception

Their wedding reception was located at the beautiful and all-providing Coast Bastion Inn, located at Nanaimo Harbor waterfront near the Port Theater. It’s a large building with quite a few banquet rooms, and a fully-equipped staff and kitchen that are happy to cater and bar tend your event. It’s delicious too, trust me. One of the perks of being a wedding photographer is getting to try all the food, and their dessert was the best I’ve had yet!!! The rooms are large, with pretty light fixtures and white ceilings/walls (a perk to photographers.) They do not disappoint! Most brides and grooms that I’ve met and photographed here at the Coast Bastion have stayed the night in one of their honeymoon suites. These are amazing, located at the top floors with the best views, have enormous beds and sexy Jacuzzi overlooking the ocean as well. So nice. Find their website here: Nanaimo Waterfront Wedding Reception Locations.
