What to Expect

A family photoshoot with Devee Photography feels natural, connected and playful. Through engaging prompts, I encourage your family photoshoot to feel like it’s a regular memory at the park. My goal is to capture a series of images that spark a genuine reflection of who you are as a family. In each of my family sessions, I capture all family groupings, including large group shots, immediate family, just the kids, kids with grandparents, couples etc. I work with the kids to ensure they feel included, and and give breaks when needed. Images are minimally edited and delivered in high-resolution JPEG’s via email within 3 weeks.

Family Photoshoot Settings

Your family photoshoot can take place in any outdoor setting on Vancouver Island. I am based out of Parksville but travel the Island and Gulf Islands. Most often, I photograph families in a beach or forest park setting, but there are also rivers and lakes that are beautiful too! If it’s pouring rain, we either embrace nature or do our best to reschedule. Timing wise, we work with the weather, baby nap schedules, and the sunlight. Evening golden hour is always the prettiest, but I can optimize any lighting scenario!

How To Prepare For Your Family Photoshoot

Set Your Intentions

Talk to your family about what this session means to you. Ask them what it means to them. Remember this as you head into your shoot and feel that energy entering the session. You are welcome to share your intentions and photo goals with your photographer too!

Be In The Moment

You already look perfect! The camera won’t see stains or dirt on your clothes- if it is noticeable, I can photoshop it out. I give 110% direction with poses, prompts and engagement to get you feeling unselfconscious and ultimately show up in these images as a true representation of your beautiful self.

What To Wear

Dress warm, dress cozy! Patterns, plaid, textured sweaters, jean jackets, scarves, pops of color, and similar color tones- all look GREAT in camera! Neutral colors are wonderful. Long skirts and dresses catch in the wind magically, and stylish hats look cute. Although I will ask the boys to remove their ball caps during the session so that I can see their eyes clearly since men tend to have deep-set eyes that create shadows. Happy Parksville Family Photography Clients

“We had a mini session with Deanna for family photos. It was such a good experience. She was quick to respond to our inquiry, promptly sent an email confirming our shoot, as well as some tips. When we arrived she was friendly and professional and you could tell she had a passion for photography. We enjoyed having our family photos taken and, thanks to her skills, it shines through in our pictures.” -Paige
“We loved working with Deanna and were so happy with our photos. We’re a mother and daughter who are often shy in front of the camera and struggle to look natural. Deanna got us out of our shells with her spontaneous prompts, and the results were authentic, and really captured the essence of personalities. Would highly recommend!” – Ali
“Deanna was extremely helpful when it came to setting up our family photo shoot while vacationing on Vancouver Island. We were a group of 6, and most of us live in Ontario. We wanted to capitalize on the opportunity to get family portraits done while visiting beautiful BC, and Deanna helped us do just that. Friendly, easy to work with, always quick to respond to an email during the planning stages. We worked around the best weather that week we were visiting, and Deanna was wonderful. She even managed the impossible, making us all look good in one photograph is no easy feat! Our Digital copies were promptly mailed to us back in Ontario. Thank you Deanna, for helping us to “document the fun” of our holiday, with lovely photos.” -Toni
