A Backyard Spring Wedding in Victoria

Jack and Charlotte became married in their own backyard in Victoria in the Spring. They held their wedding ceremony and reception in the backyard of their first home purchased together. Just a two minute walk from the Victoria Gorge Waterway, we photographed their wedding formal portraits as well as an intimate and private first look by the water among the Chestnut trees. Their wedding was full of incredible vendors that made the day run smoothly, each adding their personal touch of magic to the day. Dinner was catered by Taco Revolution’s all-you-can-eat tacos food truck, Blackfish the Band played live music throughout the night, and Natalie Rose of Champagne Rose Events ensured the day was stress free and perfect! Charlotte even wore her grandmothers wedding dress from 1943, altered to perfection by Lily Kennedy Custom Gowns!

Their Love Story

Jack and Charlotte are both very hardworking, fiercely loving individuals with strong families and large life goals. When they met, it was pretty clear that they both wanted similar things and shared the same values. Charlotte is a Navy girl who has lived on both the East Coast and West Coast of Canada. She is a sweetheart who knows how to get things done! Jack has a pretty suitable name as he really is a “Jack of all trades.” When I met with him for the initial wedding consultation, he told me they wanted to be retired in five years! These two are always working towards something but never loose sight of the little things and are giddy-in-love every damn day. They love sailing, camping, playing with animals and drinking cold refreshing beer. I was so excited that they were up for photographing their engagement session at Pachena Bay and making a weekend of it camping. Check it out here!

Their Backyard Wedding Story

A lot of effort and time was put into the landscaping of their backyard in preparation for their casual backyard wedding. They built a gazebo which they would stand under during their ceremony and had the softest grass that begged for bare feet. Their families traveled from Nelson, BC and beyond to share the special day with them, each person bringing laughter, stories and support. The speeches were emotional and hilarious, and some special gifts were presented to the bride and groom. One of the groomsmen event went so far as to sneakily pickup the free child car seat that was on the road as a gag gift!

Victoria Gorge Waterway Wedding Photos

It was ideal that the Victoria Gorge Waterway was a two minute walk away from Jack and Charlotte’s backyard wedding. The Victoria Gorge is an awesome place to take wedding photos! We started by capturing their first look inside a giant Chestnut Tree, then came back for family and bridal party photographs after the ceremony. At sunset, I took just Jack and Charlotte for a few private photos. During the walk down the street, they were congratulated by neighbors and felt a rush of emotion when they were finally alone. I always make time during formal portraits to finish at least five to ten minutes early and allow the couple to spend that time absolutely by themselves. It’s so important to have this intimate time together.
