Virgil was enjoying his morning sitting in the sun outside in a lawn chair, peacefully feeling the sun on his skin and resting. To his surprise, a beautiful bride in her wedding dress came to visit him. More than once, he said, “This is my lucky day!” With dementia, sometimes Virgil has a difficult time remembering his granddaughter. This morning was full of smiles, dancing, watching the trees, and taking pictures with two very sweet and kind souls. ♥ Shayna knew her grandfather would not be able to attend her wedding which would take place a 2 hour drive away. So instead, she made time just a mere 3 days before her wedding to have a special visit with him at his retirement home.
Shayna showed up alone, and even DROVE herself there in her fluffy dress! I was so excited that she asked me to document this precious moment. It really made his day, and fulfilled Shayna’s desire to include her grandpa in her wedding memories. We spent about 45 minutes with Virgil, meandering around the courtyard looking at various things and smiling for the camera. He kept cracking some funny jokes pretending to fly, and giving two big thumbs up with a massive grin on his face. He felt the tulle fabric of her dress, and studied her engagement ring. Truly so dang sweet!
