Courtney and Joaquin’s Pender Island Wedding ~ Wildflowers, Sunshine and Sailboats

Pender Island Wedding

Courtney and Joaquin’s Sunny Pender Island Wedding

July 8th, 2023 would turn out to be a beautiful sun shining day for Courtney and Joaquin’s Pender Island wedding. Their theme was wildflowers, which happened naturally with the incredible glow that day and blossoming florals throughout the island. Completely saturated in sunshine and absolutely glowing with happy people, I had a very hard time narrowing down which photos to share in this post. From 1096 to about 180… I hope will enjoy! There was love and laughter everywhere you looked. Wildflowers, sailboats, private vows on the beach, rocking the floorboards come dance time, and so many sweet family moments… this day was truly perfect.

Pender Island Community Hall

Their chosen wedding venue was Pender Island Community Hall, a barn-style inspired architecture built from community fund-sourcing, labor and resources. In April 2000, the hall would officially open. I had never been to this hall before, and was blown away by it’s beauty and size. A lower floor with wooden beams resembling a barn-like feel kept you cozy and in warm light, while a very sizeable dance floor was up on the second floor. This upper floor was what surprised me the most- the high ceilings felt extremely spacious, with paintings on the rail boards on the upper viewing seats. This building is truly so beautiful, with a full kitchen and outdoor space available as well.

The Love Story

Courtney and Joaquin chose to marry in the empty field next door, seated on bales of hay with blankets! The groomsmen got ready in an RV in the parking lot, and the girls got ready in a family members local home. They chose not to have a first look, seeing each other at the ceremony for the first time. Courtney did see her brother privately ahead of time, and gifted him a charm pin with their parents photographs on them. Her brother would be walking her down the aisle on her wedding, as their parents have passed on. Heart wrenching, and such a sweet way to include these special people in their day. Courtney’s bouquet would also have their photographs in charms ♥

As the groomsmen walked up the aisle to stand in place at the ceremony, one of them pulled a buggy with three little brothers! SO adorable! As well, two of the honorary groomsmen were “beer boys” and handed out cold drinks to the crowd on their way to their seats. Fun was infused into every part of this beautiful day. After the ceremony, we took large group photos and mingled for a little while before driving to a nearby beach. The timing for this was spot on. Golden hour was upon us! The last 2 or so hours of the day when the light is angled and directional in a most flattering way. The warm glow of the sun illuminated the bridal party for photos. Courtney and Joaquin readied themselves for an intimate moment in the shelter of a beached sailboat to exchange personal vows.

A feast was waiting back at the Pender Island Community Hall, and everybody was so ready for that! The meal was delicious and inspired by Joaquin’s Mexican culture. The salads were topped with edible wildflowers, melted brie and bread were served right away as appetizers, grilled meats smoked their way in through the doors to excite the crowd, and a desert bar was laid out beautifully. When cutting the cake, Courtney pulled off a bad-ass cake smash moment as she fed her husband- everybody laughed! The speeches were emotional and heartfelt, and family was having blast together in one place. I rounded off my photography time with a first dance in that epic upstairs dancefloor, and caught a good 20 minutes of the party party! Then, as my last moment with these two, we wrangled everybody outside for a sparkler send-off. Such a great time, and a truly unforgettable memory ♥
