A Luxurious Oak Bay Beach Hotel Wedding
Kirsten and Zach chose the iconic and luxurious Oak Bay Beach Hotel for their wedding celebration, creating an unforgettable Oak Bay Beach Hotel wedding experience. Located in James Bay near British Columbia’s capital city of Victoria, this boutique oceanside resort is designed in the style of an English manor house and offers a truly grand sense of arrival. From valet parking and elegant décor to attentive, personalized service, every detail at the hotel feels elevated and refined.
The Oak Bay Beach Hotel features fine dining, the renowned Boathouse Spa, mineral pools, versatile event spaces, and a range of stunning accommodations—including the Royal Penthouse. With rave reviews for its in-house cuisine, serene waterfront setting, and the convenience of hosting an entire wedding day in one beautiful location, it was an easy choice for Kirsten and Zach. What ultimately sealed the deal was the hotel’s dog-friendly policy, allowing them to include their beloved dog, Bentley, in the celebration. Drawn to the elegance and experience of the venue, the couple happily traveled from the mainland to Vancouver Island to tell their wedding story here.

Elevated Luxury in the Penthouse Suite
Kirsten and Zach approached their Oak Bay Beach Hotel wedding with thoughtful intention, prioritizing space for connection and quiet moments throughout the day. They chose the Penthouse Suite as the setting for Kirsten and her bridesmaids to get ready—and later, as a luxurious retreat for the newlyweds to enjoy together.
The suite offers an impressive 1,072 square feet of living space, complete with two bathrooms, a spacious living area, and a loft-style bedroom. Perched high above the shoreline, the views from this vantage point are truly breathtaking. Watching both sunrise and sunset from the Penthouse Suite feels immersive and unforgettable, adding an extra layer of magic to their Oak Bay Beach Hotel wedding experience.

An Emotional First Look
Kirsten and Zach thoughtfully built their wedding timeline to include a private first look on the beach—just the two of them, along with their fur baby, Bentley. Moments like these are a reminder of how intimate wedding photography truly is. Often, I’m the one guiding a bride or groom toward this emotional exchange, bearing witness to a sacred and deeply personal energy as they approach a life-changing moment. It’s frequently during the first look that emotions finally surface and are fully felt.
I had the honor of walking Kirsten down to the beach to meet Zach and Bentley, who were waiting for her below. I could feel the intensity as we moved closer. Just before stepping into the elevator, she paused, looked at me, and asked for advice on how to get through what came next. I don’t remember exactly what I said—but I do remember how aware I was of the weight and beauty of that moment for her, and how meaningful it felt to be trusted with it.

The Ceremony and Guest Connection
Spending meaningful time with their wedding guests was a top priority for Kirsten and Zach, and their Oak Bay Beach Hotel wedding timeline reflected that intention. Shortly after their first look, they invited their bridal party to join them along the coastline, allowing us to capture both bridal party and couple portraits before the ceremony. This thoughtful approach gave them the freedom to be fully present with their guests afterward.
The ceremony itself was a heartfelt exchange of vows on the ocean-view terrace, as family and friends looked on—soaking in the love, the scenery, and the significance of the moment. After the ceremony concluded, guests enjoyed champagne and mingling in the sunshine, and even welcomed some unexpected guests- whales!! This was an incredible gift from nature, and Zach’s first time ever seeing the animals.
Family formal photos were intentionally laid-back, captured casually throughout the cocktail hour. With a short list, completing the shots felt effortless, allowing for a relaxed pace. From the start, Kirsten and Zach emphasized their preference for candid captures, and this approach was perfect—giving them the freedom to stay fully present and enjoy every moment of their cocktail hour.

Oak Bay Beach Hotel Wedding Reception
The remainder of the evening was filled with laughter, dancing, and celebration over a delicious buffet and a variety of cocktails. Guests were entertained with games that tested their knowledge of the couple, including a custom crossword puzzle, and personalized gift bags were thoughtfully placed at each table. Speeches, dancing, and joyful moments carried the energy well into the night.
As the sun began to set, Kirsten, Zach, and I stepped out to the ocean once more for a few final photos. I always suggest this moment to couples—not only to capture the softest, most beautiful light of the day, but also to carve out an intentional, quiet moment together amid the excitement of the evening. For Kirsten and Zach, it was short, sweet, and perfectly serene—a gentle close to an unforgettable Oak Bay Beach Hotel wedding celebration.
