Married in a CRANE~ 250′ High in Nanaimo!

Nanaimo Wedding

Hayley and Steele dreamt up their wedding day, completely their way. She describes her wedding as “unconventional”, and I’d have to say it’s true. With 150 weddings under my experience, I’ve never seen (or even HEARD of!) somebody marrying in a crane. 250′ high in the air, overlooking the industrial area of Nanaimo, Hayley, Steel, both sets of parents, and the pastor performed a legal marriage ceremony. That’s seven people clipped in via safety harness to the man basket, and raised way up high. Steele owns and operates Gorosh Cranes out of Nanaimo, and the pair thought this would be a unique way to celebrate. It sure was!

A few additional friends joined in the celebration, and they also had important roles to play. Four people were required to manage the slack lines as the crane raised up. And of course the crane operator was needed too. It was a blisteringly hot day on the pavement July 7th, and every guest was gifted colorful sunglasses to help with the intense summer light. My partner Yannick joined in the photography and videography wonderfully, as his specialty is aerial drone footage. He filmed the full ceremony with a GoPro strapped to the crane, and video clips via drone. It was so epic to have that perspective, and what initially drew Hayley to hiring us! The nearby buzzing drone added to their experience, they said.

After the ceremony finished, the crane lowered and the parents changed places with the friends. Friends were now lifted up for a crane ride, and the parents worked the slack lines. It was a really cool experience for everyone all around! A few photos were taken among sea cans and other industrial equipment before everyone headed back to the couples home. These two are living the dream and wanted to incorporate their farm life into their wedding day as well. Stomping around the yard so casually in her wedding dress, through chicken muck and grassy fields, had me adoring Hayley. From crane yard to chicken feed, this gal did not care about getting a little muddy on her wedding day. They even held some of their baby ducks, and took a moment to feed the chickens ♥ Biggest congratulations to you two and your unforgettable wedding day, and awesome partnership!

“We have gone through the photos so many times now and can’t get over how well you both captured our day, I’m beyond grateful to always have these photos.” -Hayley
