A Stormy Tigh-Na-Mara Wedding ~ Marrying OUTSIDE No Matter What!
Megan and Matthew’s stormy Tigh-Na-Mara wedding was certainly unusual weather for mid-August on Vancouver Island. A rainy wind storm rolled in on their wedding, complete with dramatic cloudy skies, rainbows, and a tease of chilly temperatures. The rain did stop during their beach photos and for most of the ceremony, but absolutely dumped during family portraits! Megan said to me that she was getting married outside no matter what- and she meant it!
For Megan and Matthew, the most important thing was to marry outdoors, embracing the untamed beauty of British Columbia. As avid hikers, campers, and nature lovers, they knew they wanted a setting that reflected their love for the great outdoors. Tigh-Na-Mara Resort, nestled in nature’s embrace, was the perfect choice. Its serene surroundings, easy planning process, and ability to host their out-of-province guests made it the ideal place for their wedding day.

First Look on the Beach
Before their wedding ceremony, Megan and Matthew decided to share a quiet, private moment together—a first look on the beach. It was the perfect opportunity for them to connect before the ceremony, as well as capture some beautiful bride and groom portraits. The beach, usually bustling with visitors on an August day in Parksville, was unexpectedly empty, thanks to the stormy weather. This gave the couple the rare chance to enjoy the beach all to themselves. The rain did hold off during this moment, but the wind sure did not! I loved catching a photo of Megan keeping her veil in place just as Matthew tried keeping his hair tidy. It made for some wild west coast portraits- exactly what they had dreamed of!

An Outdoor Garden Patio Reception; Perfect for a Stormy Tigh-Na-Mara Wedding
After exchanging vows under the charming gazebo, Megan and Matthew and their guests sought shelter from the rain, enjoying a cozy moment together. Despite the weather, we quickly captured the formal photos with the family and bridal party, braving the downpour for some beautiful shots.
Once the formalities were done, I had the pleasure of documenting their reception. Tigh-Na-Mara’s outdoor garden patio reception space turned out to be the perfect setting to weather the storm. Covered and equipped with propane heaters, it provided warmth and comfort for the guests while still allowing them to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. It was a picturesque spot for the couple’s celebration, rain or shine!
