7 Qualicum Beach/Parksville Park Wedding Ceremony Settings

Qualicum Beach/Parksville Park Wedding Ceremony Settings: a Local Wedding Photographer’s Guide

As a seasoned wedding photographer based on Vancouver Island, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph at a range of Qualicum Beach/Parksville park wedding ceremony settings. Below, you’ll find a brief summary of each location, along with a photo that links to a larger gallery so you can explore each space more fully. Most of these spaces work well for a wedding ceremony, with receptions held elsewhere.

Please note that a Special Events Permit may be required to host a wedding ceremony on park property. Permits are issued through the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) and can be applied for here:

1. Rathtrevor Beach, Parksville

This 347-hectare (857-acre) provincial park is one of the most popular Qualicum Beach/Parksville park wedding ceremony settings. If you love both beach and forest scenery, Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park offers the best of both worlds. A wide, 2-kilometre sandy beach stretches along the shoreline, captivating visitors with a dramatic tidal shift of up to 1 kilometre throughout the day.

Rentable picnic shelters make it easy to plan relaxed BBQ-style celebrations, while more than 200 on-site campsites offer convenient accommodation for couples and guests who want to turn the wedding into a full West Coast weekend experience. https://bcparks.ca/rathtrevor-beach-park/#things-to-do

2. Oak Leaf Community Park (Es-hw Sme~nts), Nanoose Bay

Oak Leaf Community Park (Es-hw Sme~nts) is a truly special three-acre piece of paradise. Nanoose Bay’s community slogan, “Nurtured by Nature,” comes to life in this picturesque setting. A grassy meadow sits atop iconic West Coast cliffs, framed by distant mountains and expansive ocean views.

Arbutus and oak trees create a beautiful natural frame for photos, while the occasional divers and dog walkers passing by add to the park’s relaxed, lived-in coastal charm. It’s an ideal setting for couples who appreciate authenticity, nature, and a ceremony that feels effortlessly West Coast. https://www.scubabc.ca/oak-leaf-park/

3. Moorecroft Regional Park, Nanoose Bay

This 35-hectare Nanoose Bay park is another spectacular West Coast setting for a wedding ceremony. With multiple ceremony locations to choose from, couples can tailor the experience to suit their vision—whether that’s an intimate forested nook, a meadow overlooking the quiet bay, a dramatic coastal bluff, or a pebbly beach for a just-the-two-of-you moment.

For portraits, the park’s diverse trail system invites you to wander and explore, offering an ever-changing backdrop of ferns, forest, cliffs, and coastline. Why choose just one setting when everything is right there? https://rdn.bc.ca/moorecroft-regional-park

4. Saahtlam Park, Qualicum Beach

Saahtlam Park (formerly St. Andrews) is a 2.4 acre property recently purchased by the town of Qualicum Beach in 2018. I have witnessed a number of weddings take place here, either setting their ceremony up on the grassy shoreline, the pebbly beach, or in the shade of the forest in the grassy field. The location is a quieter Qualicum Beach ocean setting than the main beach accesses. https://qualicumbeach.com/project/saahtlam-park-formerly-st-andrews/

5. Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park, Qualicum Beach

This is for the waterfall lovers out there. Although the views of the iconic waterfalls are surrounded by chain-link fencing, the forested setting throughout the park can make for a lovely ceremony site while listening to the roar of the water flow. https://bcparks.ca/little-qualicum-falls-park/

6. Cameron Lake, Qualicum Beach

Cameron Lake is a dream setting for mountain lovers. Cradled by towering peaks on all sides, the lake feels dramatic and grounding all at once. Mount Arrowsmith rises to the south, while Wesley Ridge and Mount Horne frame the landscape to the north, creating a powerful sense of place.

In 2024 and 2025, back-to-back human-caused wildfires affected these mountains, leaving visible scars on what was once uninterrupted forest. Even so, Cameron Lake remains breathtaking—a reminder of both the resilience and fragility of this landscape. With its easy access and striking mountain-and-water backdrop, it continues to be a meaningful and beautiful ceremony site to consider for couples drawn to raw, West Coast scenery. https://albernivalleytourism.com/explore-cameron-lake-history-nature-alberni-valley/

7. Cathedral Grove (MacMillan Park), Qualicum Beach

Cathedral Grove is the popularized, famous old-growth forest on Vancouver Island which receives 500,000+ visitors annually. This might come to mind right away when thinking of Qualicum Beach/Parksville park wedding ceremony settings. The 800 year old giants and thick undergrowth glow in a myriad of green and earth tones. It feels right to call this forest a Cathedral. It’s a powerful setting for couples who feel most at home among ancient trees and quiet moments of awe. https://albernivalleytourism.com/experience-cathedral-grove-vancouver-island/
