A Wind-Kissed Saahtlam Park Wedding
Jordyn and Geoff’s Saahtlam Park wedding took place on a sunny mid-September day in Qualicum Beach. While the sun shone brightly, the wind made its presence known, adding a touch of wild beauty to the day. Surrounded by an intimate gathering of family and closest friends, the couple exchanged emotional vows with the sun on their faces and the ocean breeze in the air. Their ceremony was tucked into the forested area of Saahtlam Park, a spot that offers more shelter from the wind than the beachfront location where many Saahtlam Park weddings are typically held.
After the ceremony, the air filled with hugs, laughter, and heartfelt congratulations. We began family photos in the forested area of the park, a more accessible spot for guests who found the beach difficult to navigate. From there, we headed down to the shoreline, fully embracing the wind.
While I love photographing faces lit by full sun with the bright blue ocean and sky behind, the wind had other plans — especially when it came to hair. Instead, I positioned the sun in behind, creating a soft, glowing backlight that felt magical.
It was important to Jordyn and Geoff to share a photo with each of their guests, so we spent time capturing those meaningful connections. Once family photos wrapped up, the two of them took a quiet moment together on a piece of driftwood — one of those beautiful, unscripted pauses I always photograph from afar. Afterward, we returned to the beach to capture romantic portraits of the newlyweds against the stunning backdrop of Saahtlam Park.
That Wedding Dress!
I have to take a moment to rave about Jordyn’s wedding dress — she sewed it herself. Keeping the dress safely hidden from Geoff at her mom’s place in Campbell River, the process of making her gown became a meaningful part of the wedding experience. What started as a creative project turned into treasured time spent visiting her mom, adding another layer of love and memory to an already heartfelt celebration.

Black Brook Lodge Wedding Reception
After their outdoor Saahtlam Park wedding ceremony, the newlyweds and their family travelled to the nearby Black Brook Lodge to celebrate their reception. The lodge is an ideal setting for multi-day gatherings, allowing guests to stay together under one roof and truly connect. It was the perfect choice for Jordyn and Geoff, who deeply value family and wanted their wedding celebration to feel intimate, meaningful, and unmistakably family-centered. The venue can host up to 40 guests, and sleeps up to 16 in 10 beds. Amazing!
Guests came together to prepare a home-cooked meal to share, while heartfelt speeches brought more than a few tears. After dinner, Geoff shared a slideshow telling the story of their journey together, followed by the shoe game, cake cutting, and a night of dancing and karaoke. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as Jordyn shared a dance with her grandfather, followed by Geoff dancing with his daughter. The love filling that living room was deeply poignant and unforgettable.

“My wife and I got married out of town so we had no specific photographers in mind for our wedding initially. We came across Deanna’s photos online, which we loved, so we made the decision to have her shoot our wedding. And it was a great choice! Even before the wedding began, Deanna was responsive, thorough and extremely helpful. And on the day of, she was even more so. Plus we absolutely love our wedding photos! Thank you.”
